why i was so skeptical to put my photographs on the internet for so long was because i feel my photographs belong to a physical album, and when being viewed i should also be present, describing things and telling stories. though i truly believe great images stand alone, without explanation, mine are too personal to me and i want them to be understood. which was also a big question for me, if i do this for myself why would i show other people? what do i get from showing others? my favorite photographs of my own are ones like this, where i feel i am the only one who can see.

ReplyDeletei'm glad you put your photos on the internet. for two reasons. the first, some people don't get the opportunity to experience the physical album- the stories, your presence. the internet does the best it can. second, your photos- among other adjectives- are beautiful. maybe you take photos- and keep them- for yourself, but just in the way they are meaningful to you- your favorites- is enough reason to share them. what else can we do? it makes the photos (as they already do for you) exist in the world. sometimes i go on very long walks and i'll happen to come across an unexpected natural phenomenon, and i was alone. not one other person was there to witness this event, did it even really happen? your favorites- something you see- could very well never be understood by anyone else the same way, but i think thats ok. because the images- maybe all, or just some, and maybe even none- might mean something really big to the people who look at them (even as distant and vast as the internet universe).
